Ottumwa

Visitors are welcome to view the house from the outside as Grant Wood did in 1938 when he was inspired by its unusual
Gothic window. The State Historical Society of Iowa owns and preserves the house, and it is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places. Celebrate Gothic Days in Eldon the second full weekend in June each year.
Air Power Museum
This 20,000 sq. Ft. museum is located on a 30 acre antique airfield. It features various periods of aviation through models,
engines, propellers, photos, etc. Approximately a dozen aircraft are also on display including WWII models. Open 9-5
weekdays, 10-5 Sat. and Sun.; closed Aug. 31-Sept 4 and major holidays.
Chief Wapello's Gravesite & Memorial Park

This site is the final resting place of Chief Wapello, our county's namesake, who was Chief of the Sac (Sauk) and Fox Nations.
He negotiated the sale of Indian lands in Iowa to the US Government, thus opening the Iowa Territory for home steading in
1843. He was laid to rest beside his friend General Joseph Street. Historical information is available at the gravesite.
